Test Your English is a practical course in six parts, designed for pupils who have received prior knowledge of English as a foreign language in schools where it is taught as a key subject. It is intended for classroom or individual use by non-native speakers of English who are on intermediate or advanced level in their studies of the language.
The chapters of all parts cover the vast majority of language problems that arise in the learning of the material. The difficulty of the material in these books varies. They represent a collection of teaching aids to be used while teaching English. Although the number of these exercises is merely a drop in an endless ocean, they may be taken as an illustrative sample each of us may start from and teachers can feel free to add any updated material which is available to any of the chapters. We, in our turn, recognized the need to offer all pupils the same chance by ensuring them access to more ways of testing.
Test Your English course, undoubtedly, addresses the needs of all pupils who are interested in acquiring top performance and competence, especially when it comes to final and entrance exams.
This book is meant to test the capacity of high school pupils to discern between right and wrong in a wide range of sections of English, be its grammar, vocabulary, spelling and pronunciation, their feeling of the language when it comes to the logic of a text, or the building up of a composition. The chapters, the order of which reflects a certain gradation in difficulty, focus - each in their turn - on a selected type of exercise as follows:
I.Tests for the 5th form
• at the level of grammar, vocabulary, and creativity;
II.Supplementary texts for gymnasium level
• enriching one's knowledge by reading cognitive texts and checking understanding.
• or more precisely defined topics of social, public and personal interest.
There are many ways in which this course can be used:
• in class with the teacher. Pupils might accomplish the tasks both orally and in written, working either in groups, pairs or individually.
• after class. The "write-in" activities represent an ideal opportunity to practice consolidation of the studied material at home.
A great teacher once said, "Any method in the hands of a good teacher is a good method." Good teachers like their pupils, like what they are teaching, and believe their pupils can learn. Teachers with such qualities will, we hope, find that this book helps their pupils learn, no matter what course books or methodology they follow.
We hope the book will be helpful for both teachers and pupils as well as for all those who need to refresh their English language skills. -- Author
